What is vibration therapy?

Vibration therapy is a machine which applies fast percussion on muscles and joints. This helps to relax sore areas and breaks down scar tissues formed by previous injury.

Benefits of Vibration Therapy?

  • Helps improve range of motion
  • Increases blood, lymph and tissue fluid flow.
  • Improves post-workout recovery
  • Muscular activation.
  • Promote Relaxation
  • Prevents injury
  • Releases muscle knots.

The equipment we use

SMSM Therapy Ltd uses state-of-the-art Hypervolt Massage Gun by Hyperice which is a new type of vibration therapy device used to loosen stiff and sore muscles. This device uses a 3-speed setting and delivers up to 3200 percussions per minute. There are 4 interchangeable head attachments (flat, round, point, double-head) used on various different parts on your body.

Science behind vibration therapy

This modern twist in our therapy is not considered without understanding the scientific research, clinical trials and your feedback.
The treatment boosts the circulatory system by delivering oxygen and nutrients to the damaged tissue cells and dispersing metabolic waste. After an injury, a muscle will take a long time to recover due to the lack of oxygen (hypoxia) within the area. Muscle knots and scar tissue formation is developed which reduces flexibility, lowers blood circulation and weakens the area. The likelihood of re-injury is high therefore treatment is needed to increase the efficiency of the muscle. The best thing about vibration therapy is the micro movement it produces to break-down tough scar tissue and muscle knots on the surface. The percussive movement of the device activates muscular contractions which increases its strength and stimulates cell repair regeneration.

How we’ll prepare

Your therapist will access the state of the muscle tissue or injury and use the device to return the area to normal functionality. We usually start at the connective tissue and apply different forces to impact the superficial and deeper layers. The therapist may use a combination of active and passive movements to increase the range of motion.

Risks and Limitations

Vibration therapy is considered as a safe and non-invasive treatment. However, the mechanical forces can impact organs and tissues adversely if not used properly or used excessively. Vibration therapy is not recommended for certain health conditions. Please discuss vibration therapy with your practitioner to decide if it is a good fit for your situation. People with serious heart conditions and pregnant women should not use vibration therapy.
